The Salvation Army Grand Opening of New Youth Center   March 22, 2017 4PM – 6PM

The Salvation Army will officially open its new YOUTH CENTER, March 22, 2017 4pm - 6pm and Distribute Books and Blankets to Area YOUTH at 76 W. Russell Street Marinette, WI

Planned is: A Salvation Army Red Kettle Bouncy House, Capt. Kettle (he has his own Facebook page), Words by Alderman Ken Keller, Major Steve Merritt (The Divisional Commander for The Salvation Army of WI and Upper MI), Chamber members will cut the ribbon and present a plague, Bay Cities Radio will broadcast live, Popcorn, Hot Dogs, juice, books and blankets will be distributed to approximately 200 children.

The Salvation Army began considering a Youth Center about 2 years ago and now serves over 30 children with the expectation of many more when the community becomes aware of all it offers.  The Mission of The Salvation Army – to minister in the name of Jesus Christ is reflected in many ways.  Christian music is in the background, children are rewarded for bringing homework and are earning points toward a lock-in to be held in May, there is time for Crafts, games, a reading corner or play on the donated game tables such as Foosball, Air Hockey, Pool Table, Ping Pong (one table given from a Marinette Menominee Area Community Foundation Grant and one from the Presbyterian Church), Flat Screen TVs given by AmericInn to be used for movies, Wii Fit or Xbox360 Kinnect.  Over 900 books have been donated and many blankets. 

Books and Blankets will be given to any youth who come to the event and it is intended 200 children will register for books/blankets and be entered into a door prize drawing. Items to be given include 2 Bay Area Dance Academy scholarships, a Fandango movie basket, I-Tune Cards and more. 

 The Salvation Army will bring in a Salvation Army Red Kettle Bouncy House, Capt. Kettle the Mascot and Hot Dogs. The Bay Area Jr. Women’s Club has been an active and integral partner and will provide Books, Blankets, Popcorn and Juice. The Club will assist children in choosing appropriate reading level books.
