Education and Business Partnership

The mission of the chamber's Education & Business Partnership is "to help promote and support business and education connections by organizing events to learn, share, and create an awareness and appreciation of what our communities offer."

The group meets at noon on the second Tuesday of each month. While many meetings take place at the chamber, others are held at area schools or businesses.

Christine Polzin from Northeast Wisconsin Technical College is the group's chairman.

The following programs/initiatives are presented by the Education & Business Partnership:

Life Skills / Game of Life Expo` - Amy Bretl & Leo Hodlofski, Co-Chair
A one-day game of life for 8th graders, held at UW-Marinette in March. The "game" gives kids a sneak preview of life's financial challenges. After selecting a career and imagining life at the age of 29 (with the assistance of their school counselors) students spend the day at the Expo` making decisions on how to spend their monthly income: they select and make payments on a house (including utilities, taxes and insurance) make car and insurance payments, buy groceries, pay the phone bill, etc. For most participants, it's an eye-opening experience. Area businesses – realtors, insurance agents, grocers, car dealers and others – participate in the effort, helping kids learn.

Mini Businss World - Cindy Bailey, Chair
This is an annual business simulation game for high school juniors and seniors from 7 area school districts. The two-day program, held at UW-Marinette and made possible by a partnership with KS Kolbenschmidt US Inc., gives students a taste of what it is like to run a large business. Students learn about financing, accountability, production schedules, marketing, human resources and other challenges when running a business. Business ethics and environmental stewardship are emphasized through presentations and skits, led by a business advisor volunteering from within the community. Each year the program serves 30-36 students.

New Educator Welcome - Michell Hampton, Chair
This welcoming committee puts together materials for all of the new educators within the area's educational systems - Public, Parochial, along with Post-Secondary.  Donations from a variety of businesses within our community are collected, compiled and distributed as a token of appreciation and welcoming.  The "swag bags" are personally delivered in September to the schools where the new educators are employed.
